About The Mitchell River House
The Mitchell River House has been lovingly refurbished in keeping with the feeling of stepping back in time. This is a two-story wood frame house with a red tin roof. Trust us, you have not lived until you drift off to sleep with the rain hitting on an old tin roof. The River House, as we call it, has three bedrooms. There is one bedroom downstairs, just to the left of the front entry hall. The Quilt Room, as we call it, has a three-quarter bed with an antique oak headboard. A gorgeous quilt on the bed encourages an afternoon nap. The fireplace has the original oak mantle (all fireplaces are for decorative puposes only - due to their age they are not safe for fire-building) and the walls are wood planks. There is a bath with tub and shower and a small closet for hanging clothes. This room also has a small table and rocking chair for reading in the evening and the windows are graced with wood blinds. An antique cherry wood secretary is available, if you feel like writing a letter. A comfy soft rug completes this room.
As you go up the staircase (original to the house) the second bedroom is at the top of the stairs to the right. This is our Texas Room, named as a salute to the owners' heritage. This room has pine plank walls and wooden floors with a heavy rug for accent (and cold feet). The bed is a full-size white four-poster with old white wicker accent dressers; you also have a wooden writing desk in this room. In addition to the full-size bed there are bunk beds. This room also has a fireplace (decorative only) and wood blinds on the windows. Cowboy quilts cover the bed and hang on the wall.
Across from the Texas Room you have the Great Room and Master Bedroom, a wonderfully roomy area for relaxing. The large sitting room has a couch that unfolds to a queen bed and several comfy chairs in addition to a TV. Several bookcases are in this area, with a wide assortment of titles for all ages. You also have a huge window for watching a sunset or possibly a snowfall. The floor is pine but covered with a feet-friendly rug -- a decorative fireplace also accents the room. This room has one of the two phones you will find in the house. The master bedroom and bath are indeed worthy of the master, with pine walls and floor, a huge area rug, king-size bed, desk and leather chair, a chest of drawers, another decorative fireplace and wood blinds. The bath has double sinks, shower stall and tub.
